Vacation is great way to spend quality time together as a family. Whether it's a few days, a week or more, time off from the regular routine can reinvigorate the entire family. Many families are choosing to 'staycation' due to COVID, ease and affordability. It doesn't matter where but with a little foresight the whole family can enjoy some time off the grid, focused on time together.
First, discuss with your partner how much time and resources are available. Once you have some dates in mind, pick a destination and make reservations.
Next, plan but don't over plan. Involving the entire family in planning helps get buy in, particularly from our teenagers, and it also distributes the work while letting kids research activities ideas. It is important to ensure that time away has something enjoyable to fit each family member's needs, abilities and interests. Last year we went hiking in a National Park and my youngest planned all the specific day hikes, my daughter found us great places to eat and the oldest and his wife planned a side trip along the way.
Lastly, have fun! A break from the daily schedule is a great way to connect and focus on the family. Doesn't matter if you book a trip, camp out in the yard or drive across country, just make time to relax and enjoy.
